OLD NEWS - year 2005

December 2005

The next meeting of the 2006 AGM Organising Committee will be held on Sunday Dec 11, 2005

This meeting will be the final one for the year. The AGM Organising committee wish all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New year. We will be busy over the Christmas/New Year period finalising the AGM Week Program and the latest information for the February edition of your Riding On. Many sub committee meetings are taking place on a more informal basis to work out the nuts and bolts of the AGM.

November 2005

The next meeting of the 2006 AGM Organising Committee will be held on Saturday Nov 26, 2005

The heat is on now, our meetings are every fortnight now with a 4 week break over the Christmas period. The AGM week program is underway with advertising starting to roll in. We are currently looking at options for identifying the volunteers and the AGM Organising Committee. The grand parade route assembly and finish areas are all sorted now. Some Motorcycle manufactures have been down and inspected their sites and the test ride route. They appear to be very happy with the location of the trade displays. They have said being on a sealed surface is a real bonus.

The merchandise webpage had 90 hits in less that 24 hours since uploading on Oct 24. Comments on the national website in the discussion forum have been very favourable to the style and colour of the 2006 AGM Polo top.

The meeting on Sun Aug 28 had Dale and Marianna in attendance. Dale is our Principal caterer from the Barn Palis for the Fri and Sat evening meals. Dale brought us up to speed on the associated tasks required of the organising committee to successfully manage this huge undertaking to feed thousands of people in a given time frame. After our meeting we had a bite to eat at Cafe RA, followed by a site inspection with Dale and our Sparky and our Plumber. Dale is more than happy with the site, the layout and the existing infrastructure.......GH

July 31 AGM meeting report for website latest news page.

Our meetings continue to be a three and a half hour session. The major out-come from this meeting was the presentation of the polo and rugby top. A huge thank you goes to Judy for organizing some smart looking merchandise. It has been decided not to release any photos of the merchandise until the AGM.

Meetings with the Ulverstone Police, Central Coast Council, and the SES are underway, sorting the grand parade route and all traffic movement during the AGM.  The traffic management issues that go with a grand parade are quite complex and we thank Malcolm for taking on the task of organizing the grand parade, which will include the CBD of Ulverstone.

Some traders are booked in already and that part of the AGM is off to a good start. TT Line inform us bookings continue to roll in with over 2400 bookings received.

Local sponsors are gradually coming onboard as the momentum starts to build for this once in a lifetime event for the Cradle Coast of Tasmania. Sponsors onboard are:

Van Ek Contracting, all Tasmanian Motorcycle Dealers,  Ulverstone Football Club, Events Tasmania, Central Coast Council, Cradle Coast Authority, Harvey Norman – Ulverstone store, Dobsons Electrical and Spirit of Tasmania.

Christine our Volunteers Director is trying to source some photos of inside the Hoeker at past AGMs. This is to help her volunteers understand what to expect on the Fri and Sat evening functions. If you can help Christine out phone:

June 2005

Special deals webpage updated Friday June 24.

The 2006 AGM Organising committee meeting on Sunday June 19 had another three-and-a-half hour long session. Things are starting to get hectic with many committee members increasing their workloads 10 fold to bring the budget in by the end of June and to meet Riding On deadlines. Merchandise has been chosen with firm pricing and suppliers being finalised. The menu has been set with beef on the Saturday night and chicken on the Friday night.

Rod and his site team are frantically working to get site plans into council. I am busy getting the traders information and booking forms sorted ready for upload to the website by the end of June. A volunteer has come forward to put together the AGM week program, well done Janet. Another volunteer has come forward to consider taking on the organisation of the grand parade. We hope for a positive response from Malcolm after he considers this task. We have a visit by the company suppling the toilet and shower trucks later this week.......By GH

The next meeting of the 2006 AGM Organising Committee will be held on Sunday June 19, 2005

May 2005

The  Committee meeting on Saturday May 21 had our new National AGM Coordinator - Graeme Rule present. Graeme passed on valuable advice and factual information from the Canberra AGM. As some of you may be aware, Graeme was the Coordinator for the Canberra AGM. Pete Williams (NatComPete we call him) has been in the state for some time on personal matters and has been in constant contact with us. Pete is almost a local now. BTW Pete was a local many years ago. We have a good working relationship with the National body and the 2006 AGM preparations are well in hand.

  • There has been a site team formed and site planning and measuring up is in progress.

  • A rides team headed by John lynch is busy putting together a schedule of day rides.

  • The Tasmanian Motorcycle Council has produced a Motorcycling in Tasmania brochure, (a quality production I might add) which will be included in the registration form sent by Wendy.

  • Nicola has entertainment well planned and is working towards a theme for the AGM.

  • Ian has food and beverage under control and prices may well be set later this week for the Friday and Saturday night dinners.

  • Judy has merchandise well in hand and is working through quite a number of expressions of interests that came in from the three Tassie newspaper ads a few weeks back and some from our website as well.

  • Christine is continuing to receive volunteer forms both from local and interstate members and the general public. Some Targa Tasmania  volunteers are expressing an interest in becoming involved.

  • Our recent incoming registrars Phil and Marita Crombie are coping well and in communication with Wendy our national admin officer.

  • Lyn Lesslie has been appointed the 2006 AGM - DVD producer, working closely with Southern Cross Television

Some Committee roles have been reallocated after the meeting on Sat May 21. Rod Priestley has taken on the Site Director's role and relinquished the Sponsorship and Marketing role. The Sponsorship and Marketing role will be maintained by all on the committee following up opportunities when they arise from now on. Graham Hart has taken on the Trade Show and will be accepting inquiries from traders after July 01 2005.  Nicola Crates has taken on the role of AGM Week Program Editor for now until some one comes forward to take up this position. The committee webpage has been updated with the new roles..........Regards GH.

December 2004

Site last updated on Monday December 22  2004  Home page  Latest news

To all  fellow Ulysses members, I wish to extend to you all the best wishes for a safe and happy Christmas as we all enter into the jovial merriments of the season . May there be lots of decent warm days for riding and may we all arrive safely.

The Committee of Directors for the planning of the 2006 Ulysses AGM have spent the last year settling into their roles and aquainting themselves with the expectations that goes with their roles. The next 12 months will see their efforts coming to fruition. Many of them will be seeking assistance - please be generous in your offers of time and ideas. At times it will seem a thankless task but the final result will be worth it. We are currently working towards a "guestamet budget" using previous AGM's as a guide. We are also in discussions with both local and state Governments to make the 2006 AGM memorable. If you will be attending the Canberra AGM, pay a visit to our promotion tent and you will see just how much work is happening behind the scenes.

Once again, all the best wishes to you all ,

Geoff Ingram
Co-ordinator 2006, President Cradle Coast Cruisers.

The competition for the Ulysses 2006 AGM logo design closes on December 31 2004. We hope you have had fun designing a logo and good luck with your design. Or If you haven't started on one yet, best get cracking on it, not much time left. Details on the logo design guide lines are on this page.

The October 31 meeting had Events Tasmania and the Cradle Coast Authority present. They detailed their in kind and financial support for the event.

Spirit of Tasmania have art worked and funded a half page 'book your passage now'  ad for the December 2004 issue of Riding On. This book early ad we feel is a very important message to get across to ALL members right now.

We at Ulysses would like to take this opportunity to thank Spirit of Tasmania for the friendly and helpful assistance they have provided in preparation for the Ulysses AGM 2006.

May 2004

Report on the below workshop. The 2006 AGM Organising Committee had no idea how many Ulysses members would turn up on Sunday. Well, they rode in to the Ulverstone footy ground on mass from various parts of Tassie. Approx. 80 Ulysses members attended our first workshop with four of the five branches operating in Tasmania having members attend. Also attending were individual Ulysses members with an interest in the 2006 AGM.

The Tamar Tourers (Launceston based) made up the bulk of the gathering and gave us their whole hearted support for the event. The 2006 AGM committee extends a sincere thank you to all who attended yesterday and very much appreciate your input into the workshop. Comments to the committee during lunch about the structure of the workshop was very positive and may I say very much appreciated. These comments gave us all a warm fuzzy feeling that this AGM is going to be something very special.

We had a committee meeting scheduled in the afternoon to begin reviewing information while it was still fresh in our minds. We have scheduled another committee meeting in a fortnight's time to continue our review of the workshop. HH

May 2004
The organising committee for the 2006 AGM extends an invitation to all Ulysses members to attend a workshop at the Ulverstone Football Clubrooms at the Ulverstone Recreation Ground, Victoria St. from 11.00am to 1.00pm on Sunday, May 23, 2004.

The workshop has two key aims. The first is to inform Ulysses members throughtout the state of progress to date in the organising of the 2006 AGM. The second is to get members ideas and input to help us with planning at this early stage.

After the workshop, the bar will be open and a light lunch will be available for a modest cost. We look forward to seeing you on May 23rd.

Note: The next meeting of the 2006 AGM Organising Committee will be held on Sunday May 23, 2004 at 2.00pm.

April 2004

The meeting on Sunday April 4 has seen a reshuffle in committee positions, please see committee contacts page for the revamped positions. The meeting also confirmed some venues and confirmation letters are being written right now.

The next meeting of the 2006 AGM Organising Committee

March 2004

Ulysses members, interested in coming over to the 2006 AGM being held on the beautiful Cradle Coast of Tasmania at Ulverstone on March 6 -13, 2006 you may like to know,  you can book your passage to Tasmania on the S.O.T. right now.  See booking form on this web page

The 2006 AGM committee have negotiated a special deal with S.O.T. which allows Ulysses members exclusive access for the next twelve months to book their passage on the S.O.T. before it is open to the general public. So we urge you all to take advantage of this unique offer and book as soon as possible. Imagine, with some forward planning you could have the ferry fully booked by Ulysses members!!
