ANZAC DAY 2009
The feral weather that greeted us at first light on ANZAC morning, obviously made the decision about going or not all too easy for some Ulysses members – they stayed at home!! So it was small band of brave and hardy (foolish??) riders who gathered at the Nicholls Servo in the rain, ready to leave at 7.30. A quick brief by Darryl and we were away.
It was cold and wet until about Harden/Murrumburrah, and we kept going till Wallendbeen where we stopped for a sharing of the thermos’ coffee and Anzac biscuits, then off we headed with a gorgeous rainbow ahead of us!! No pot of gold, but a very narrow escape from hitting a large roo, luckily for Darryl the roo executed a slide just behind his rear wheel, and didn’t hit Peter and Kim who were behind (thank goodness for the 5 second gaps…). Through Springdale, waved to the group there, and into Temora with plenty of time to spare before the procession. John got out the chamois and gave his bike a good polish – and the rest of us didn’t…
The ceremony in the park was both sobering and uplifting, and a Mustang flew overhead. John and Darryl laid a wreath on behalf of the Canberra Branch. Then off to the Returned Serviceman’s club for a lovely lunch – those desserts were too good!!
An uneventful ride home, with a stop at Binalong for a warming coffee – much needed. Thanks to those of you who came along, and for Darryl for leading, and lets do it again next year – and maybe we’ll stop at Springdale as well… There's a story here Peter and Kim Gibbins – BMW GSD Allan Sjaarda – Cagiva Raptor 1000 Gary Dunne – VN900 Greg and Alex Prindable – M50 George Fearon – Bandit 1200S John Williams – Bandit 1200S Darryl Palin – ST1300 John Storn – FJR1300 Graeme and Lin Barber – VN2000 Joe Muller – R1200 GS Lionel – ST1100 Jen Woods – XVS650 |
