Crookwell 23/1/2011

11 people and 9 bikes rolled up for an easy ride to Crookwell for lunch. A friendly lot with plenty of pre-ride talk and banter. At the appointed time we departed for our first stop at Boorowa. Coffee and a pit stop. As you will see from the photos accompanying this story we, as required, stopped at the Boorowa Post Office. Because there is post office trading on Sundays it was closed. Luckily the bakery next door was opened so we had to settle for coffee and snaks there.

After about 30 mins headed for our lunch destination via Rugby. A really great ride through an ever changing landscape. Not a lot of traffic which is always good riding these roads on a Sunday. As we rode towards Rugby I wondered if the local council had repaired a washed out bridge a few clicks the other side of Rugby. A good test of skills if we had to do a u-turn on a narrow road. As luck would have it the bridge was repaired, great! And they had resurfaced the road on the slow twisty part (40kmp) and they did not sweep the excess gravel up, even greater!! Another skills test – riding through a few cms of loose stuff. I was told that the racers who went ahead slowed for that section.

We lunched at Catherine’s in Crookwell and it looked like everyone was still happy. Ashely Plumb, Jim & Roselie Lovell joined us for lunch after making their own way to Crookwell. We spent around an hour having lunch and telling a few more stories.

Our ride home was changed a bit from the Range Road to home via Gunning & Gundaroo. A very good ride with a great crew. Thanks everyone.
