Decide & Ride - Bowning & Gunning - 27 Feb 2010
(or the Iddy Biddy Market Ride)
3 riders arrived for the Decide & Ride, and 2 Rusty Riders for a Rusty Riders Ride; the Decide & Riders outnumbered the Rusty Riders so we Decided & Rode.
Judy's suggestion of the Rollonin Cafe at Bowning saw us off via the Barton Highway for a coffee and a bluberry slice (for some) at the cafe.
Loni attempted to feed a camera to the emu, while the rest of us discussed the merits of the GPS vs paper maps, and Judy knitted ( for perspective). Loni photographed the horse & goats ( the Cafe has assorted critturs) & I managed to sneak in a patting of the sheepdog and horse (there’s a lot happening Bowning).
The Rollonin Cafe is an interesting cafe built in a slab hut style and offers good coffee, and appears popular with travellers, including two other small groups of riders who dropped in for coffee & a snack while we were there.
After playing ‘hide & found’ with an errant bluetooth device in the driveway we were off, back to Yass and then via Yass Valley Way and the Hume to Gunning for a browse of the Markets (That chilli plum sauce is a beauty!) before settling in for lunch at the Old Hume Cafe.
Then homeward bound to beat the rain, leaving Mike to the wilds of Gundaroo to search for lost hierlooms, Lonni & Hartmut branched off at the Murrumbateman Road for a north western ACT approach and Judy & I headed on through Sutton, (waved back at the feral teenage girls) and then zoomed into Canberra on the Federal Highway before going our separate ways on the outskirts.
Thanks again to Judy, Loni, Mike and Hartmut for most pleasant company on our ride and repast.
See you all out there another time!
Gary Mac
