Junee

Sunday 21/11/2010

17 motorcycles, 21 people of whom 4 were pillions turned out at the Caltex Servo Nicholls for an early start, 8.30, for a run to Junee. Weather was fine and we were ready to ride.

The first leg along the Barton Hwy to the Hume Hwy was at a moderate pace to settle us in. Onto the Hume and the speed picked up a notch or two. Traffic was light so progress to Burley Griffin Way was uneventful and quick.

Our first break for pit stop and coffee was at Binalong. Coffee and tea was good as usual. After a bit of socialising, about half an hour, we hit the road again.

Our planned trip was via Harden, the Jugiong Rd.( first one) then on to Rosehill Road towards Cootamundra. At the end of Rosehill Rd we turned right onto Gundagai Rd. (first one). After a couple of hundred metres we turned left onto the Jugiong Rd (second one) and then after that we ended up on the Gundagai Rd (second one) a short distance from Coota. The Jugiong and Gundagai roads do go to the places in their names but from two different towns. Later in the day on our way home we eventually passed or rode through both Gundagai and Jugiong.

We did have an unscheduled stop at Harden after three bikes turned down the McMahons road which also takes you to Coota. This road is a bit difficult if never travelled before hence the choice of going via Harden. Tailend Charlie alerted the ride leader however after checking our list we discovered that three of the riders who know that way decided to leave the group. It’s a good idea if you plan to leave the group to let the ride leader or TEC know.

We arrived at Junee at lunch time and after refuelling proceed to the liquorice and chocolate factory for lunch. Please note this is not a bakery.

Having had lunch and purchased a good supply of sweets we assembled for our return trip via Nangus and Gundagai. A very good ride on a very good road which brings you into Gundagai along the Murrumbidgee river. Another refuel, coffee, pit and farewell stop at the Dog then the last leg of an enjoyable ride with a great bunch of people.
