Temora - Anzac Day April 25

They shall not grow old, as we that are left grow old Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them. Lest we forget.

Anzac Day Ride Weekend Away Saturday 23 April – Tuesday 26 April 2011
It was a great day for a quick ride to Young, the sun was shining and we were ready and raring to go! Darryl and Caroline arrived at the Caltex at Nichols service station a little after 10.00am, as Darryl wouldn’t get out of bed! We were met by a small group, Alan and Lyn Munday and Ian and Sally Patterson. We refuelled and headed straight out to the lay-by on the Barton Highway to pick up Peter and Suzanne Arday. We headed down the highway with all of the other Easter traffic. It was busier than we all thought it would be for Easter Saturday.
We picked our way through the traffic with Peter and Suzanne Arday in the lead. Unfortunately, after getting onto the dual part of the highway a few kilometres past the Yass turn off a car thought he would share Ian and Sally’s lane…. Needless to say Ian was not impressed!!
We all arrived safely into Borrowa for a cuppa to the shock of us all, no Post office open. We then headed to the café a few doors down and had a coffee and short chat! We then mounted our beasts again to head off to Young…Just before we did this, Ian politely advised Caroline he wouldn’t be travelling behind her bike as it was TOO NOISY and he couldn’t hear his music…sooky Ian I say! Although, I must clarify, Ian did say my bike looked good!!
We arrived into Young at about 1.30pm to our motel. What a shock this was, it’s about a 2 star property! The ladies inspected a room and we all decided it just passed the test for us to stay. Bloody website, the property looked so good on their site. Well, that property is now knocked off the list of properties not to stay at.
We headed down town for a bite to eat for lunch at the local bakery and then off to the supermarket for some nibbles, grog and food for a BBQ. We decided to have dinner at the club on Saturday evening after a couple of drinks and nibbles – not that we really needed anymore food! We all enjoyed the meal. We headed back to the motel for dessert at the Scottish restaurant which was a 30 second walk from the motel. After an hour or so of coffee and chatting we all headed back to the motel for a good night’s sleep.
Sunday, the Ardays, the Mundays and the Palins headed to Cowra for morning tea. Ian and Sally stayed in town to check out a shop to purchase some goodies. We had coffee and scones at the information centre before heading to Greenthorpe to check out the local hotel for a bite to eat for lunch. Not that some of us really needed more food! It was a pub to be seen… a couple of elderly ladies at the Scottish restaurant the night before told us it was a great pub for a meal – this isn’t quite true. We wouldn’t recommend it for a meal!
After lunch we headed to the Iandra Castle. A must see place if you are ever in the area. Heaps of tourist there on the day! Late afternoon Chris arrived from Canberra to join us and a night’s stay in the (luxury) motel!! We had a BBQ for dinner and Ray and Mia joined us too. Then off to the Scottish restaurant for coffee and dessert again!
Monday morning, up early for our ride to Temora where we were met by 7 riders from the Canberra Branch. Sorry everyone, Darryl forgot to get everyone’s names. After joining in the march with the locals it was off to the RSL for some lunch. Lunch was enjoyed by us all and the Canberra guys decided to call it quits and head back to Canberra around
2 o’clock. The rest of us decided to head back to Young where a few of us headed off to Ray and Mia’s for afternoon tea and a chat and some took a nanna nap. More food, we really didn’t need!! We finished off the food left over from the BBQ the night before for dinner and headed to the Scottish restaurant for coffee and dessert again and then to bed for some rest for our ride home on Tuesday morning.
Even though the weekend consisted of a small group of members we all had an excellent weekend. The weather was fantastic all weekend. Although the nights did get a little chilly. Can’t wait until next year’s Anzac ride away and hopefully we can get back into the Caravan park!
