YOUNG, NSW – ULYSSES RIDE REPORT – 1/7/07
Just as well that the ride was delayed by some disgraceful ignorance of what ‘reserve tank’ means on a bike. That mishap was rectified by Flip ‘good fairy of the highway’ with a pillion ride to fuel and back to the dry bike abandoned on the GDE.
The delay allowed Steve to attend the ride after flattening his battery, locking himself out of his house, breaking the speed limit and running two red lights … only to find that he had forgotten his tissues! The full box purchased at the servo was a popular item on a drippy sort of a day.
Not that the sky dripped much at all, except for a spit just out of Binalong and as we arrived back in ACT about 4 pm, with about 300km on the clock. Garry McC obviously has Peter A’s ‘rain whispering’ talent while leading a ride!
Murrumbateman was far enough for one bike which did a U turn there … not to be seen again for the day. The next rider to peel off back home was from Binalong … no windshield.
There was some discussing around the open fire at Binalong that we have lunch there too and spend the rest of the afternoon telling stories and lies, however we pushed on to Young via Cuzac and Moppity roads.
At the Mill Tavern which served pretty ordinary food there was a staff member who remembered some of the crew from a visit in June last year. Now that’s a worry!!! Lots of conversations going on about all sorts of topics from the odour of bathroom cleaners to a replacement secretary for our branch and the possibility of a maintenance course.
Peter led us back to Yass via Boorowa. He included a lesson on U turns on Moppity Rd with a chance to practice hill starts. Not passed by all members! Jen wishes she kept a 30 m gap between her and the bike succumbing to gravity in front of her.
There were 9 bikes at the Liberty café in Yass for the last warming drink of the ride.
The starters were: Rob Swan - Honda VF1100C[ 25 yrs Oldest bike], Dawn Delaney - Honda XBR500 [21 yrs], Steve H - Moto Guzzi Le Mans [18 yrs], Flip – Virago 750, Judy – Virago 535, Jen Woods XVS 650, Mick Beltrame R1150R, Andrew - Yamaha F21, Garry McCurley - VFR800, Peter & Cheryl - BMW R1150, Adrian & Kris - Yamaha Ventura, and newest bike Mack Delf - Yamaha T-Max less than a year old with only 16,000km on the clock
