Sending photos by email

The next time that you go on a Lake Macquarie Ulysses ride and take some photos with your digital camera, think about sending some of the better pix to your webmaster for inclusion on our website.

All very well”, you say “but how do you send the photos after they are transferred from the camera onto my computer

Like most things in computerland, there are a number of ways to do this. What follows is but one of the ways to email photos. (If you currently do it differently and it works for you, please continue as you are).

To start the process, activate Windows Explorer (that’s the file manager utility in Windows XP), by clicking on START  then  PROGRAMS  then  ACCESSORIES  then WINDOWS EXPLORER.

Navigate to the folder where your photos have been saved.  The application will then open to look something like this :

If you are sending more than one photo, left click on the first of the selection and then whilst holding down the SHIFT key, left click on the last photo of the selection. All the needed photos are now highlighted (as in the graphic above).

On the left hand side of the screen (under the heading FILE AND FOLDER) you will find an entry “EMAIL THE SELECTED ITEMS”.

Left clicking this entry will generate the following dialogue box :

You will see (in the top left hand corner) a dialogue box indicating that the computer is preparing the photos for emailing.

The dialogue box in the centre is asking you to indicate how small the email file is to be. If you wish to alter the default setting, left click on “SHOW MORE OPTIONS” button. The default setting is to make the file size smaller. Windows XP has a compression utility built-in to achieve this.

Left click on the OK button to see a new email form appear (with the selected photos ready for emailing) :

All you need to do now is insert the email address of the recipient and click  SEND.

The email address of your webmaster is brom@kooee.com.au - please indicate the destination and date of the ride,  on the subject line of the email.
