Jargon and obfuscatio over Q-Ride
"Despite a motorcycle death toll of 24 on the Gold Coast this year, it seems to tell us there will be no improvement or no abandonment of the Q-Ride system, whereby people with money can quickly access an open licence as long as they buy a motorcycle from the retailer.
Mind you, we only think that is what it says.
What is plain is that the Queensland Government is not prepared to do anything until July 1 next year -- and that strikes us as a bloody exercise.
To be kind, perhaps the minister is struggling to get his mind around the whole motorcycle licensing system.

Stoner is man of year
"WORLD champion Casey Stoner is MotoGP's man of the year, claiming a clean sweep of major European awards.
Stoner ended the eight-year domination of the award by Italian superstar Valentino Rossi by claiming the prestigious Motosprint Rider of the Year crown.
The major award, from Italian publication Motosprint, will be presented to Stoner at Tuesday's joint Ducati-Ferrari global media launch for the 2008 season.

Green light for fixed cameras
"FIXED cameras will be in place by Christmas to catch speeding motorists in Queensland, the State Government says.
New cameras on the northbound lanes of the M1at Tarragindi and northbound on Main Street at Kangaroo Point will be operational by December 14 and a third on the Bruce Highway northbound at Burpengary will be running in January. Source:

Last-minute donations rev up Ulysses toy run
AFTER last week's plea for more toys, the Lockyer Valley Ulysses Club has been inundated with donations from the people of Ipswich.
President Paul Brasher said the article in last week's QT obviously touched a nerve with residents and since then he had received non-stop phone calls with offers of gifts and donations. Source:

Radio bugs for bikers
The Queensland State Government is looking at fitting motorcycles with hi-tech electronic devices to prevent them from escaping speed camera detection.

Bikie Gangs To Be Banned In S.A.
BIKKIE gangs like the Hells Angels, the Gypsy Jokers and the Finks will be banned in South Australia, under new laws the State Government says are the toughest in the world.
The Government will target at least eight groups with new laws allowing the attorney-general to declare a bikie gang an outlawed organisation and to confiscate their assets, even their Harley-Davidsons. Source:

WHEN John Travolta tied on his black bandanna, slipped on his dark sunglasses and straddled his motorbike for a road trip across the US, his desire for "freedom" resonated with baby boomers the world over.

Cross Border Motorcycle Blitz
POLICE on both sides of the border have been heartened by a successful operation aimed at lowering the motorbike road toll in southeast Queensland and northern NSW.
As part of Operation High Side -- an ongoing cross-border patrol effort shared between Gold Coast and Tweed-Byron police -- officers yesterday set up camp on the border at Nerang-Murwillumbah Road, at Numinbah.

WORLD champion motorcycle racer Casey Stoner has called for laws to require riders to wear more protective equipment than just a helmet.
