A clear ANZAC Day saw 8 riders brave the cold and dark for a 4 am start at McDonalds Yamanto for a ride down to the Vietnam Vets clubhouse at Kingston for the Dawn Service. Traffic was relatively light as the small convoy picked its way through the roadworks along the route, arriving at the clubhouse a little before 5 am. It was cold, but there were a lot of people already there. The service was held at dawn, a very moving and well conducted ceremony as the sky lightened, and as the last notes of the bugle died away in the morning light everyone was invited for coffee and breakfast in the clubhouse. Stories were swapped and the ANZACs were honoured by those who remembered and reminisced.
At 9 am a group of over 290 throbbing bikes left the clubhouse and formed up to ride along the South East Freeway into Brisbane for the ANZAC Day march - a truly impressive sight, somewhat daunting to the cage drivers who encountered the kilometres long convoy as it thundered along. Both sides of Elizabeth St accommodated the huge group as everyone parked and headed off to watch the parade, and the Vietnam Vets and Patriots formed up to join the march.
The day was good, the service moving and everyone present enjoyed the day.
