Mt Mee - 10th August 2008

Submitted by Lubo

Lubo's Magical Mystery Tour to Mt Mee….where the hell that come from…. I don't know. All I know is that I like the area and find that forest park a nice place to visit and thought….. let's go there again.

After the Ladies ride to Mt Tyson, I didn't think we would have a chance of beating the record for the number of bikes going. That's not what it is about anyway!! I was pleased to see 28 bikes at the BP on a very cold morning. The frost was still on the ground, in the shade at 9 AM!! Everyone was rugged up but we knew it was going to be a beautiful day. Once again old and new faces were there for the ride which I thought was fantastic.

After a quick ride brief…. off we head. Harry once again doing a fine job of TEC and keeping us all in check. I had only made the decision on which way we were going, the night before. Mt Glorious or Kilcoy/ Woodford???? Woodford won out as some people felt a bit of trepidation heading up over Glorious; especially Tony after his near miss on the observation ride. Either way didn't bother me so I thought that we would go around so that all could enjoy the ride.

First stop was at Somerset Dam to get everyone back together again as we had spread out fairly well. We headed on and stopped at the memorial gardens and spared a thought for the members that have ridden on. We then made our way in to Kilcoy for a coffee to warm the insides. Konrad's wife Christine had a bit of a spill after getting her coffee, not seeing a step down. All was good just the pride a little dented and lost her coffee!!!!

We make our way through to Woodford and then on up the twisties to Mt Mee. Had a ball heading up there until I lost sight of Hazza behind me so I had to slow down a bit. A caravan had a bit to do with it too. We wind through Mt Mee and then off the road into the Forest Park. We fired up the barbeque and soon the snags, steaks and onions were cooking. Others enjoyed the sun and sandwiches. Many other families were there too. The Prez run a raffle and make some money for the branch as well as passing on a little money as the prize. The lucky winner was Margaret Morgan!!!!! I believe that one goes in the kitty for the next big trip away!!

After we are all fed, a group photo was taken by some great strangers who come running to take it. Some were expecting them to continue running with the cameras but that didn't happen. We move on to Dayboro where Mr Plod tried to take our photo, but with the number of warnings we had there wasn't much chance of that. As we pull up and get fuel, Wal and Margaret end up on the ground after the Wing decide to have a lie down. Both were OK but they hit pretty hard though. I know how you feel Wal…pride dented more than anything. You were both OK , which is the main thing.

On we go and I decide to head up to the top of Mt Glorious but then head south to Mt Nebo. At the top, we part ways with some of the other riders. Wal and Margaret, Al Gray and Maria wave goodbye and head west. The rest of us wind our way through Mt Nebo and down to the The Gap. As I haven't travelled through here much, I trusted the GPS to get us through. The others behind us knew a quicker way through and about 5 of us get separated from the main group. Henry, Sue and Jeff continue on whilst we waited for some time for the others, who never come. We, (Hazza and Dottie, Tony, Ashley and Tess, Kath and I) found our way through and slowly parted company. I was thinking of heading in the Macca's at Goodna, but decided to stay with Hazza. As we pass the Macca's I saw the bikes in the carpark and give a toot. Bit hard to turn around!

We continue on and grab a coffee at BP Blacksoil with Hazza and Dottie. We reflected on a really great day. Some hadn't been on the Mt Nebo road before, so something new to see. I think a few had sore bums by the time they got home though. We said our goodbyes and head off into the setting sun, realizing that we just spent another great day out with our Ulysses family and totally enjoyed ourselves.

I would like to personally thank all who attended. I enjoyed sharing the day with you all and always have a great time.

Thanks again to all and look forward to the next one!!

Terry and Kath.

Motorcycles In The Media

Can-Am Spyder no motorcycle

Is it a motorcycle, is it a convertible, is it a trike, or is it some sort of mechanical stick insect?

It's none of these; it's the three-wheeler Can-Am Spyder and, for the moment, you need a full motorcycle licence to ride the $25,990 vehicle. But that could change.

Still easy riding in Townsville

AMONG Ulysses club members, Stephen Dearnly is numero uno.

The man known to fellow club members as Ol' No. 1 is the founder of the club that's celebrating its 25th anniversary this year.

The sprightly 85-year-old was still riding less than two years ago and still loves to get on the back of a motorcycle.

Scooters 'safer than bikes'

CYCLISTS would be safer if they rode 50cc mopeds, according to an organiser of a petition against Queensland Government changes to rider licensing laws.

The Parliamentary Travelsafe committee has recommended that moped riders who currently ride on an open car licence be required to obtain an automatic motorcycle licence.

Riders told beware, take care, survive

MOTORCYCLISTS will be hit with graphic images as part of a State Government campaign to curb the rising road toll.

A radio campaign began yesterday and billboard advertising will be erected at crash hot spots next month.

Grey power boosts bikers

WHEN John Travolta tied on his black bandanna, slipped on his dark sunglasses and straddled his motorbike for a road trip across the US, his desire for "freedom" resonated with baby boomers the world over.

In fact, the grey-power biker movement is so strong it even has its own club, with an appropriate motto "Grow Old Disgracefully".

Cross Border Motorcycle Blitz

POLICE on both sides of the border have been heartened by a successful operation aimed at lowering the motorbike road toll in southeast Queensland and northern NSW.

As part of Operation High Side -- an ongoing cross-border patrol effort shared between Gold Coast and Tweed-Byron police -- officers yesterday set up camp on the border at Nerang-Murwillumbah Road, at Numinbah.

Stoner endorses rider gear

WORLD champion motorcycle racer Casey Stoner has called for laws to require riders to wear more protective equipment than just a helmet.

The Young Australian of the Year who started the season with a win this month said he had seen "first hand" the benefits of comprehensive safety clothing.
