Mt Lindesay Branch Origin
The inaugural meeting held to decide whether there was enough interest to form a Mt Lindesay Group of Ulysses was held at the Veresdale Hotel on 3rd February in 1998. We understand this meeting was a great success, and people from as far as Logan attended. We remained a group until Natcom passed a resolution that all Groups become Branches. The first President of the Mt Lindesay Group was Carl “Boris” Phillip.
With the huge expansion of the Ulysses Club it had become apparent that there had been a drift away from the original constitutional structure of the Club. At the Mount Gambier Extended NatCom meeting in March 2002, the national committee announced a couple of minor adjustments to bring the structure back into line. We remained a group until December 2002 when the National Committee formally declared us a branch.
The Mt. Lindesay Group remained a small, friendly bunch of about 35, holding their meetings at Veresdale Hotel, on the 1st Tuesday of the month. In November 2002 the then committee led by Steve Rogers moved the meetings to the 2nd Tuesday of the month with a change in venue to the Kensington Hotel. The 2003 elections our first as a branch hailed a new president, Alan Armstrong.
Moving to Greenbank Sport & Recreation Club in 2005, the Mt Lindesay Branch had gone from strength to strength. There were several changes in presidents and committee members before our next move in late 2008. The increase of memberships was such that the Greenbank Sports & Recreation Club was no longer able to accommodate the growing numbers attending, which then led to our move to the Park Ridge Tavern where we remain at this time, our current is president Peter “Thunder” Gray.
Our membership is now hovering around 165 + with regular attendances at the general meetings between 80 & 120.
