MUDGEE is MAGIC in 2006 We are now a few years down the track from hosting the AGM and back to the norm. I thought that for those of you who couldn't make it to our AGM I would tell you a little bit about our district and hope that one day in the near future you will call and see us. Set in the heart of Henry Lawson country, Mudgee is famous for its wine (largest vineyard area in NSW). You can take a wineries tour with Mudgee Wine tours and meet your very friendly Ulyssian hosts Terry or Jan Hill or pay a visit to the Cheese factory cellar door. The town itself has many historic buildings and fine spacious parks. There are plenty of fine Motels, Hotels, Guest Houses and B&B's to take care of you and several clubs. Visit the surrounding villages such as Gulgong, the town on the old ten dollar note and in its heyday of the gold rush era Gulgong boast a population of approx 20,000 people, with its original building still from those days and the The Prince of Wales Opera House, the first Opera house in Australia it is well worth a visit. Then you can take a drive out through the village of Ulan and head towards Cassilis where a few kilometres along the road you will see the signs for The Drips, a bit of a walk but well worth the effort, it's a beautifully peaceful place where you can sit and relax with your feet in cool water or go on to Hands on Rocks and see the Aboriginal art, a bit of a climb and not recommended for the faint hearted. Other spots you can visit within easy reach of Mudgee are Rylstone and then on to Kandos. Have a look at the old gold fields at Hargraves, Hill End and Sofala, all well worthy of a visit during your stay. You can even try your hand at Gold panning, hard work but lots of fun if your knees will let you squat down. All these place have lots of cafes or pubs where you can sit and have a break with a cool drink and fine food. But the first thing to do when planning your trip is to give us a call, tell us the dates and arrange to meet us as
we would really like to meet you.
