Cresent Head Ride Report
There were 11 bikes and 18 bodies that made the overnight ride to Crescent Head.
We travelled up through Dungog, Gloucester and joined the Pacific Hwy at Taree.
The road from Stroud all the way to Crescent Head was a very good bike road with
lots of sweeping bends and no men in blue to be seen, however the road up to
Stroud is still very ordinary. Arrived at about 12.30pm, went to the pub for
lunch, then some went for a swim in the surf. There were some problems with the
motel and all agreed that we would not stay there again, ask Polly why. We
booked a table for 18 at the Country Club for Dinner and it was a great meal.
Some danced, some drank, some played the pokies, and some did all of the above.
We had a good night, with several agreeing to go for a surf at 7am the next
morning. After everyone sobered up, the gloss seemed to go off the early morning
swim, however, Dave, Bear and Mick did go for a surf. Most wanted to have
another overnighter to Crescent Head and stay at the Caravan Park in cabins
right on the water. Possibly a two night ride in summer, we got the park details
and prices, so keep an eye on the ride calendar for the next trip. We came home
the same route having lunch at Gloucester. Dave took a wrong turn coming back
and finished up doing the scenic route to Gloucester. Crescent Head was great
ride and a nice spot.
Nambucca Ride Report
Ten bikes and 16 bodies left for Bendemeer Friday afternoon. This was a ride that took us through the bowels of hell, 42 degrees. We had a terrific meal at Bendemeer Hotel, had little sleep as it was too hot.
Oh, and we had a couple of drinks as well. A few had s-e-v-e-r-a-l Ports, I’m told. Some had breaky in Bendemeer, some went on to Armidale for breaky. After going through the bowels of hell only to be
followed by the clouds and mist and rain and fog and everything else. Wasn’t it the greatest experience we have ever had? All would have to agree that after Friday’s experience of 42 degrees++++ and
Saturday’s wet and cold miserable foggy road and cattle shit all over the highway to say nothing of the cattle, which saw a bunch of them overtake us at a gallop as we edged our way through them over a narrow
bridge in the middle of the blessed highway, we just about coped it all. At one point I was down to 60klm/hr searching for the white line in the centre of the road with approx. 20 ‘ of forward vision,
watching for Val’s headlight behind making sure she was still upright and came face to face with a double “B” pantech with headlights on and haven’t seen him yet. Yes I jumped all right because he too
was looking for the white line in the centre of the same piece of road. I missed him, but Val reckons she still has paint off his front mud guards on her jacket shoulder. Phew it was close. Thank God we all
made it safely to our destination, lots of us less experienced riders were very pleased with our efforts and rightly so, I know Jill struggled with her side car down the mountain and still came out smiling,
mind you, some might have called it a grimace, but all know it as a smile. The butter factory at Bellingen proved a great success, I think and if we all stay together next time we might all enjoy it together.
Some arrived at Nambucca around lunch time and met with those that had ridden up on Friday for an extra night at Nambucca and some had came up the coast on Saturday. So we all had a drink and waited for the
others to arrive around 2pm. Nambucca once again failed to disappoint, some enjoying a swim and some saying it was too cold so had a drink and backed some slow horses. Dinner Saturday night was for 29 and all
enjoyed a great meal, oh and some drinks. Some retired early (inebriated, funny that), some stayed ‘till closing (playing pokies). Sunday saw the majority of the party leave for breaky at Clybucca were we met
Lyn & Matt Sponberg. Then on to Bulahdelah for lunch where about another 10 bikes & 14 bodies met us. We won’t talk about a certain preso with ladies frolicking about his cabin looking for WHAT?? a
light for a cigarette, come on Beat we know you don’t smoke, maybe it was sugar for tea or coffee. If you don’t believe us, ask Max, he thought he had walked in to someone else’s cabin. We will get all
the details later Bear. And a personal thanks to Donna who sacrificed her pillion time with Dave to ride Val’s ER5 after succumbing to the intense heat of Friday and allowing her to ride pillion to cool off.
Michael & Dave.
Bendemeer Ride Report
The day started with 1 bike and 2 bodies doing the lone gherkin to Muswellbrook. Thankful to find 2 more bikes and 4 bodies waiting, this included 2 new members (Peta & Garry - hope you will join us again
soon for a ride). We were on our way to Wallabadah for morning tea only to find when we stopped and got off our bikes someone had turned the temperature up by about 10 degrees C, so cold drinks were had by
everyone and off we went to Bendemeer. No speeding was done, too many speed cameras, 6 , and heaps too many police on the road and hiding in the bush (Tamworth Country Music had started on Friday). Bendemeer
was a welcome sight, we knew the Lemonades would be cold and they were. We were joined by 2 of my relo’s from Gunnedah and we all enjoyed a yummy lunch. Some of the locals don’t know windows from doors, the
man picking up the glasses from around the bar and outside seemed to use the window more than the door to go in and out. Valmai decided to do this when we were leaving only to find she was to short and she
bumped her knee on the way through. Warm & windy on the way home so a few stops for drinks were made, at one stop a comment was made about Albert and a dog and if you want more info on this matter please
ask Buzzy or Albert. A good and funny day was had by all. See you all soon Ros.
Stephen Dearnley’s Birthday Ride
Only about 8 bodies from our group made the trip down the Putty to Wisemans
Ferry for number one’s 80th birthday get together. Quite a quick trip down the
putty, plenty of bushfire damage most of the way. I hadn’t been down the Putty
for about a year, and the road is in pretty good shape. Arrived about noon,
there was about another 100 Ulyssians there. Stephen was presented with several
gifts from groups, made a short thankyou speech, then we started to think about
lunch. we decided to make our way up to Mangrove Mountain Bowling Club for lunch
as it was on the way home. Had a snack there then off to Wollombi pub for a
drink then home. No dramas or problems, and a good ride was had by all.
Dave.
Dubbo
At our last monthly meeting it was decided that the following day’s ride to
Dubbo would be changed, some felt it was a bit too far and others thought that
it would be very hot. All present agreed that a trip around Lake Macquarie and
lunch at Warners Bay would be a good ride. About 10 bikes and 15 bodies turned
up for the ride. We stopped at Dave’s pie shop for smoko in Cessnock, then off
around the lake. We arrived at Warners Bay about 1pm and feasted on all sorts of
seafood, by the lake. We left for home about 2.30pm, uneventful trip and all
enjoyed themselves.
