4 October, ride to Gulgong.

5 bikes and 6 bodies for this ride. Left MBK Macca's late. My bike wouldn't start so I drove to Macca's to inform Jill as we had arranged to meet for breakfast before the ride. When the 3 bikes arrived from Singleton, Keith Smith & Gary (last name unknown to me) decided to ride up to my house to see if they could push start my bike, which they did, so I was able to ride and enjoy the day which also included Cathy & Jim Sheedy. Headed towards Sandy Hollow and took the road to Rylestone through the Bylong Valley. This is a very pretty ride, cruising leisurely through green valleys and then up and over the mountain range. Stopped for coffee and cake at the servo in Bylong, spoke to the owner who informed us that since the road had been sealed completely, there has been a noticeable increase in motorbike traffic. 3

Not surprised as it is a great run. Had a few sprinkles of rain, not even enough to warrant stopping to put on the wet weather gear. Upon arrival in Mudgee, we decided that we had enjoyed the ride so much, we would have lunch in Mudgee and return home the exact same route. Had a good counter meal, enjoyed some friendly conversation and then rode home and enjoyed the view for the 2nd time that day. Only a small group but we all enjoyed our day out together.

1/11/09 Brekky ride

Sunday the 1st of November saw 6 bikes and 8 hungry souls depart on our first brunch ride for the season. We welcomed Phil Donald on his first ride with the branch and hopefully we haven't scared him off and he will return.   The eating point was Beaumont street in Hamilton, and those who have been on previous brunch rides, would be familiar with the cafe we usually go to.   Well, Denise Black suggested we venture down the lane way that runs parallel to the cafe we usually eat in, which to my surprise gave us plenty of options to choose from. Denise recommended a particular establishment on which we all agreed, and after being seated were quite surprised by the cost of the breakfast special.   It turns out that if you buy a coffee, [or any beverage] you can then order a breakfast consisting of 2 eggs, toast, sausage, rasher of bacon, and grilled tomato, for the princely sum of $5.00. What a great deal, most of us took up this option and can thoroughly recommend it for future brunch rides.   They also do a lunch meal based on the buy a beverage principal for only $7.00.   Well done Denise.   So after breakfast and a few yarns being spun, thanks Ned for the Route 66 update, we all departed for home. As Colleen and I were going to Cessnock, we decided to go our separate way, with the majority supposedly coming home over Sugarloaf, Wayne was the only one who took that turn, the rest for some reason followed me. I hope you didn't get lost coming home on your own Ned.   Gasket's Can am Spyder certainly created some interest when it was parked in Beaumont street, one particular punter stood and stared for an eternity,   I still don't think he could work out what it actually was.   All in all good morning for a ride, great company, and fantastic food with great value for money.
Cheers.

Simmo.
