BRANCH NEWS & CALENDARS

Lower hunter

Only 14 turned up at the Coonabarabran weekend because of the weather, which ended up being perfect. Doug & Denise Eslick of Binnaway came on the ride with us to the Warrumbungles on the Saturday morning and they came back to the pub for dinner.

While enjoying some Disgraceful behaviour before dinner we were visited by Barry Hewitt and Dave Langenbaker of Dubbo, who swapped a yarn and sank a few with us before leaving to attend another function.

Kevin Barton had a Bundy good time and was last to leave the bar when the rum ran out. His red eyes showed the effects next morning.

I can recommend the meals and accommodation at the Imperial Hotel, but Liz White must have had some doubts about the food as she was seen entering the dining room at lunch time eating a mini pizza from the cake shop next door.

We look forward to renewing our acquaintances with our friends from Binnaway and Dubbo when we visit Mudgee in October.

We also met some members of the Newcastle XJ900 Club at Coonabarabran and I invited them to come on one of our rides. Brian Pike phoned me in July and arranged for 6 of their members to ride with us to West Head.

We outnumbered the 065 Group on their ride to Barrington House at the end of June - I counted 22 of our Group. I think a lot more would have been there if the weather hadn't been so cold. Anyway, it was a good ride, with good company, and the lunch was excellent. It was also a wet ride on the way home.

Don't be alarmed if you've seen a three wheeled UFO around the Lower Hunter lately, travelling faster than a silver bullet, resembling Mad Max. It's only Cliff Thomas on his new trike. Cliff bought the trike to travel to the next two AGMs. Good on you Cliff, it looks great!

We've changed the venue of our stop over at Mudgee in October top the Cooinda Caravan Village, corner of Gulgong Road and Bell Street, Mudgee, phone 063 721 236. There is plenty of cabin accommodation, on site vans, and grassy camp sites all with good facilities available.

Our July meeting was attended by 76 persons. Beside a number of new members, we had Mike Gyles of Tasmania as a guest. There were a large number of members who had birthdays in July, I won't mention any names in case I forget someone.

Carol Cameron made a birthday cake for Terry Shepard's 60th, and she included other names on the icing. Thank you Carol, you did a terrific job, and everyone who had a piece of cake thoroughly enjoyed it.

This will probably be my last contribution to Riding On as I will be handing over the reins to someone else in October, after 2 years. Thank you to each and every member for your assistance and support.
