BRANCH NEWS & CALENDARS
(continued)

Lithgow and district

Greetings to fellow Ulyssians from all in the Group. Missed the closing date for last issue; forgot what month it was or something like that. Must have something to do with old age and CRAFT - or both! Anyway, enough of that.

The last issue was full of the AGM so I won't go into that except to say that all those who attended really enjoyed it and had a great time. Congratulations to the Wagga Wagga committee.

The Lithgow and District Group celebrated its first birthday in May and it's hard to believe that 12 months have already passed by. At our AGM, outgoing coordinator Barry Mays did not seek re-election. Rod Pieper moved a vote of thanks on behalf of the Group for his contribution, effort and enthusiasm during our all important formative year.

The newly elected Group coordinator is Laverda mounted Les Meakins, who can be contacted on 063 531006. Congratulations Les, and I'm sure the Group will continue to give you their support.

I must make mention of the Bike Show held in May in support of the CareFlight Fun Day in Lithgow. It was a successful fund raising effort and thanks to all who helped make the venture such a success, with particular mention of the Orange Group who turned up in considerable numbers. Also members of the Comancheros, Bikers Australia, and other Central West and Mountains groups.

After cancelling a number of our scheduled trips due to shocking weather, it was pleasing to have a good roll up for our June trip to Wellington. A leisurely ride up, with mandatory stops for fuel and coffee, had everyone in the mood for a great weekend.

Everyone had a great time, the accommodation was good, the tour of the caves enjoyable, and Saturday socialising with the Nepean Branch was even better, prompting plans for a return trip in the near (warmer) future.

The trip was virtually incident free - if you disregard Perce Pyne headbutting fixtures at Frasers' showroom (laying shit on Harleys, Perce?), and three bikes that wouldn't start on Sunday morning (GoldWings won't start, and those dreaded kill switches don't turn off the lights, do they Jan?).

There is no ride calendar planned for this quarter in the winter months ( what hemisphere is Darryll in? :ed ), the Group preferring to decide a ride for the month at our meetings , until the weather improves.

Sunday mystery rides are still popular and will continue departing from the Shell Roadhouse at Donnybrook every Sunday at 10am. To encourage more social activity in the Group it is planned to have a BBQ once a month at members homes, the first at Barry & Val Missinghams' home to get the ball rolling.

It is also good to see the ladies of our Group signing up for the Women Only Stay Upright Day. I'm sure that everyone will be pleased to know that stalwart member Eugene Crawford is making good progress after his second shoulder operation and will be back on his bike soon.

Western Plains

Since the last report we've had some beaut, 'crisp' (as BC would put it) morning rides. The trendiest winter gear has been exhibited by some of our newest riders of the Group.

We have held two Friday night, monthly meals at the West Dubbo Bowling Club which have proven very popular, with 30 plus enjoying the nights out. Next month we're in for a treat of P & P at Bynons.

A June long weekend ride was organised by Thommo, with an overnight stop at a 'mate's' pub at Grenfell then on to Cowra, where we met up with the Sunday riders before rounding off the day's ride with the Woodstock Car & Bike Show & Shine.

A day ride to meet the Coonamble lot and the return to Dubbo to Dave & Marg's for a BBQ provided a venue for a great get together and a chance for Dale & Janelle to show off their new addition , a new green Harley D with all the bells and whistles. It was also a preparation ride for the July trip to Lightning Ridge.

The Ridge trip saw the Thommos and the Chappos (sorry Keitho) Christen their new Royal Stars with their first overnight run along with 21 of the Group. The run was well organised by Noel White from Coonamble. On the way home the Group met this lot at Wo and Shorty's for a BBQ at Coonamble.

July also saw a ride to Stuart Town and return with about 19 bikes attending, with Marg having her first ride since obtaining her full licence.

Our Group now boasts 5 ladies with full licences and 2 on Ls, not bad since Maureen was the only one with a licence on our October Odyssey to Adaminaby.
