Dave has been a member of the Ulysses Club since August 2008 and has been a dedicated and active member since then.
Dave was an inaugural member of the Ulysses Club Road Safety Committee when it started in 2009, regularly attending meetings, and being actively involved in advocacy work for Ulysses Club riders in the WA area.
Dave has authored many enewsletters which when sent to members have received very positive feedback, and have been important to remind riders of various safety issues. The Road Safety Forums and stands held each year at the National Rallies have been manned and often organised by Dave.
The following comments are from Chris and Dianna Glover, members in W.A. and reflect the dedication provided by Dave to road safety. “Dave has put many years in fighting for the rights of motorcyclists, and working with politicians, motoring associations and government agencies to improve safety and awareness of all road users, but predominantly motorcyclists. His efforts would have saved many lives over the years and resulted in a greater understanding of our needs and the dangers we face daily from other road users. Dianna and I have both attended a number of safety forums organised by Dave, and you can tell by the comments of government agencies, road designers & builders and other vehicle drivers, many never realised how their actions affected our riding safety. I know Dave has also been involved with investigations after accidents, fighting to improve roadside hardware to minimise risks to future road users, and encouraging stakeholders to arrange compensation for those injured on unsafe roads.”
Dave attends many branches, preferring to not align with any one branch. This means he will attend and contribute to numerous branch meetings over a month, a not insignificant task given the size of WA.

In 2017 at the AGM in Wauchope Dave joined the National Committee, and until his retirement from the role of Committee Member in 2021, Dave undertook the role of Advertising, Purchasing, Member and Community Liaison. During this time Dave worked tirelessly to establish advertising for the Riding On and website and was successful in doing that during a difficult time as interest from advertisers for print advertising was declining. Dave worked closely with National Rally teams to assist them in understanding the nuances in website advertising, and helped create the specific advertising prospectus for each rally.
The Purchasing portfolio was also challenging, and Dave formed an excellent working relationship with the Australian Clothing Company, negotiating a proposed shift to provide Gear Shop sales direct from them. While this did not ultimately proceed, Dave represented the National Committee over many months negotiation to provide a successful outcome. It did not proceed due to changing circumstances. While in the Purchasing role, Dave worked to reduce items in the Gear Shop and to introduce new and different items in the Ulysses Club branded items for members.
Dave has been an active and invested member of the National Committee, contributing to all facets of the committees work, enthusiastically getting involved wherever he could.
Dave worked to put special merchandise packages together to first be advertised in the Riding On magazine, and then in the enewsletters.
Dave also conducted a review of suppliers of clothing and merchandising to ensure the best deal and service for the Ulysses Club. This was conducted over some time and the results presented to the National Committee. The project had resulted in the existing supplier continuing in the role.
The advertising pack was revamped and updated and this was implemented by Dave as part of his Advertising Liaison role on the National Committee.
Working with Amy Zazy, Dave created the new look Ulysses Club promotional banners and flags for the use by branches. These are a vast improvement on those in use, being more eye catching and up to date.
Dave didn’t just “do his job” on the National Committee, but went above and beyond to make changes and to deliver the best results for members.
The undersigned members nominated Dave as a Life Member in recognition of the contribution he has made to the Ulysses Club.
